My name is John and I have the honor of serving donors here at Pure Desire as they fuel more healing in the world through generosity.
As the second annual Team 58 Day approaches, one of the best ways to pay our healing forward is sharing our stories.
Why? Because we overcome by the blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimonies!
Here’s my story.
Growing up a Christian in South Dakota, I was exposed to pornography at 9 years old doing homework with my mom on our family computer which ushered in shame. When I was 13, I got an iPod Touch for my birthday and this began a 10 year addiction to pornography and lying to my parents.
After graduating college, I applied for a dream job of traveling with Josh McDowell, but got denied because of my history with porn. But, they offered me something better, a position in office where I could go through Pure Desire counseling!
In 2020, God began my healing journey in a Seven Pillars of Freedom group where I:
shared my secrets,
identified my pain,
and began to experience the healing of Jesus!
It was seven months into the journey that God brought reconciliation to the moment of shamewith my mom as we forgave one another over the phone. Porn wasn’t my problem, pain was.
That’s what Jesus began to heal.
One of my prophetic promises is from 2 Corinthians 12:9 where it says, “… ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.”
Today, I consider it an honor to boast about my weakness and Christ’s power to save so that the next generation will know Jesus instead of addiction!
