Dear Friends and Supporters,
I love this time of the year when summer begins to turn into fall. Kids are going back to school, vacations are slowing down, life seems to begin to settle again. And yet- we know there are many souls here within our city who have yet to experience this cycle of change because their constant reality is in the form of abuse, broken promises, manipulation, and lost dreams.
I suppose that’s one way to start a newsletter. Hang on, I promise it will get better…
This month has been heavy. Our hearts feel weighty and yet through the brokenness, we can clearly see our Savior, seated on His throne surrounded by an aroma of prayers being poured around him. He bends down to listen, interceding on our behalf to the Father and standing in agreement that His will be done on earth as it is in heaven. This is our confidence.
It’s been an eventful and impactful month, and we want to celebrate and update you on some significant developments. Here we go!
Victory Church’s Remarkable Work
Our heartfelt thanks go out to Victory Church (pictured below) for their outstanding work on the land of Selah. Their team transformed our garden beds, covered our bee boxes with protective rocks, and demolished an old structure, all while continuing the restoration of this cherished land. Watching the continued transforming and beauty spring forth is a simple reminder of the souls that will one day be transformed through Selah.
Volunteer Training Night Success
This month, we held a volunteer training night and we were thrilled to welcome around 25 new individuals to our mission. Their eagerness to join the fight against human trafficking was truly inspiring. Seeing the Lord strengthen and grow the Dear Dinah army is a testimony to the power of the Church and the Lord’s heart for his children uniting in his name for his glory. The need is great and we are beyond thankful to those ready to engage!
Upcoming Human Trafficking Training
One key step in preparing to volunteer with Dear Dinah is participating in our human trafficking training. If you are interested in learning more about human trafficking and the specific ways Dear Dinah is committed to fighting against it, we invite you to join us for a crucial Human Trafficking Training on September 3rd from 6-8 PM at the Dayton Dream Center. You may register through this link: Human Trafficking Training Registration.
Montgomery County Overdose Awareness Day
Suicide and suicide ideation sadly affect many souls affected by human trafficking. We were honored to be a part of the Montgomery County Overdose Awareness Day event. What an encouragement to see so many community organizations come together to support such an important cause. This event underscored the vital need for awareness and action in our community to help so many souls suffering in silence.
Street Outreach Highlights
God is on the move in our city! This month, our street outreach team connected with 21 girls, including 16 new faces. One girl chose to enter recovery that very night, and we successfully helped another escape motels on Miller Lane, reuniting her with her mother. Additionally, one girl has started the Ending the Game curriculum and is now two months clean and free. Our team remains committed to supporting those in recovery and sharing the hope of Jesus every Thursday.
If you feel called to join us, contact Kalie McDonald at kmcdonald@deardinah.org.
Stop Traffic Walk in Lebanon
Lebanon, OH is stepping up in the fight against human trafficking with their first Stop Traffic Walk on Saturday, Sept 7 at 10 am. Kristie Sexton, National Chairwoman for Stop Traffic Walk, spoke at a town hall this past Saturday, highlighting the crucial work of “Where Hope Lives” in AZ. We were honored to attend the city forum and are grateful for Lebanon’s support of Dear Dinah by donating a portion of the proceeds raised from the Stop Traffic Walk. Come join us on the 7th to make a difference!
The Reality of Human Trafficking
This month has been a vivid reminder of the stark realities we face within this ministry- human trafficking is real, it’s here, and it remains a cause worth fighting for. We’ve seen an alarming rise in human trafficking situations in our community, resulting in what feels like almost daily calls for interventions with far too many women held in the grips of their trafficker. One thing is clear- this battle is not ours alone, but the Lord’s, and we are grateful to be instruments of His light in the darkness.
