MARTINSBURG — Martinsburg High School custodian William Shoup was arrested after hiding in a girls’ locker room closet during a girls’ basketball game against Hedgesville High School on Feb. 12. When he was discovered, law enforcement was contacted immediately. A total of 29 charges were filed against him.

After the incident occurred, Berkeley County Schools released an official statement explaining that all students involved were interviewed, and families were contacted as administration works closely with law enforcement. Staff assured families that Shoup will not return to the school.

“The safety and dignity of our students is non-negotiable,” Superintendent Ryan Saxe said in the official message. “What happened is deeply concerning, and our priority is supporting the students and families impacted. We are cooperating fully with law enforcement and will take every appropriate step to ensure accountability and to strengthen supervision and access procedures around student areas at school events.”

Berkeley County Schools also addressed concerns about the hiring process, explaining that background checks are required for all employees. They were unable to share more information as the investigation continues.

“We deeply regret that this incident occurred and understand the fear, stress, and concern this may cause for our students, families, and staff,” the official statement said. “Our thoughts are with the students and teams involved, and support services have been initiated for any students who may need assistance as they work through the emotional impact of this incident.”

About SGC

The Demonic & Spiritual side of human trafficking needs to be emphasized more. Many organizations are doing a yeoman’s work in awareness, restoration of victims, and interdiction of perpetrators. Saving God’s Children is going the extra step to provide training and a plan of action to take on the Spiritual component. By encouraging Holy Spirit Filled Christians to get involved in the Spiritual Battle of reclaiming the ground and communities from the forces of darkness that have been taken over by witchcraft and demonic entities where they live in. This emphasis on adding Spiritual Warfare to the action plan in helping to eradicate child and human trafficking, distinguishes SGC from the others involved in this noble cause.
